grey color doesn't usually mean criminal... it can be a person with very low(negative) karma, like a PK, but without kills... so when u kill such person it means u killed a regular player, and thats why u was flagged criminal....

that s how I think it is... cuz I had same story couple weeka ago... I killed a greynamed guy... and he couldn't guard me while I was killing him... but after I looted his body he came and guarded me.... and when guard killed me I was normal again and could loot my own body...
