making money

how do you make money on this server. i've tried inscription but i have to sell all my scrolls for a loss. i've tried tailoring but everything i make i have to sell for a loss. And i've tried mining and blacksmithing but my pickaxe breaks after i gather around 180 ore and after i finish blacksmithing i make just about enough for another pickaxe. Is it just because my character is still "Newbie" like do the costs go down/selling prices go up once that title is taken off?
